Compatible charging stations with my-PV

It is well known that part of my-PV's corporate philosophy is to be open to the solutions of other providers. This applies to the control of electric heaters as well as to the installation of our devices in a wide variety of heat storage systems and - probably most important - it also applies to the combination with inverter, battery storage and smart home manufacturers to determine the excess power in the house. However, all three areas only relate to the generation of heat for hot water or space heating, with energy from the photovoltaic system.

In addition to heat, the photovoltaic surplus is also becoming increasingly important for another area of sector coupling: for e-mobility. As we are receiving more and more inquiries on this subject, we are presenting our current options here.

Indirect compatibility already exists when a higher-level energy management system has control over all consumers. An example would be a smart home that is able to control a charging station in addition to the performance specification on my-PV. In some cases, such systems also allow a prioritization of the various applications. Examples of such indirect compatibility include the SMA Sunny Home Manager, E3DC or Solar-Log. The my-PV device has nothing to do directly with the charging station. From my-PV's point of view, the wall box manufacturer openWB also falls under the category of higher-level energy management, because openWB is responsible for the entire control and regulation strategy for the consumers. The my-PV devices are only given the power output.

There is direct compatibility if my-PV also manages the energy management of the charging station. However, it should be noted here that the power controllers from my-PV can only control the power of electrical resistance heating. This means that they never take over the power modulation directly at the wall box! However, through the energy management the charging station is informed on how much excess photovoltaic there is. As soon as the available charging current exceeds the limit of 6 amps, the charging station can adjust the power to charge the vehicle accordingly. Although my-PV does not actually consider itself a smart home manufacturer, this type of energy management is possible with some types of the Keba brand.

In the case of both possibilities, indirect and direct compatibility, an intelligence coordinates the heat applications of my-PV and the charging station. But there is also a third possibility. This concerns the case in which both applications exist, but they do not interact intelligently with each other through energy management. This is the case, for example, when an inverter manufacturer can control its own charging station with solar power, but has not implemented the my-PV application as part of the energy management in its control. In doing so, my-PV exists as a separate controller, in parallel and uses the PV surplus according to the performance data that the inverter transmits from the house connection. Coordination of the interaction with the charging station is only possible to a relatively limited extent via the "Target value of the regulation" parameter and the temporary blocking function of the my-PV device.
